Roseau County 4-H trains adults to lead youth ATV safety courses
Roseau County 4-H is offering adults the chance to become certified ATV Safety Leaders. The programme trains volunteers to teach youth ATV certification courses. Similar 4-H leader training for shooting, archery, or ATV safety is not widely available across Minnesota in 2024. The certification process begins with a conversation with a local 4-H Educator. They help with registration and may cover expenses. Next, applicants must complete screening to become a 4-H volunteer.
Training includes an online pre-work course and a one-day in-person session. The fee of $50 is paid by Roseau County 4-H. Once certified, leaders must renew their qualification every seven years.
For ATV Safety Leader training, the session takes place on May 2 at Sherburne County Fairgrounds in Elk River. Registration closes on April 24.
Other training options are also available. On April 19 in Bemidji, adults can train in archery, rifle/pistol, and wildlife instruction, with a registration deadline of April 9. Another session on May 16 in Alexandria covers shotgun, rifle/pistol, wildlife, and archery, with sign-ups ending on May 7. The certification allows adults to lead youth ATV safety courses in their communities. Those interested must register before the deadlines and complete the required steps. Roseau County 4-H supports volunteers through the process.
