"Who doesn't speed, shows maturity": School project against street racing - Rhineland-Palatinate launches bold anti-racing initiative for young drivers
Rhineland-Palatinate is initiating a new campaign, '#ResponsibilityStopsRecklessDriving', to educate young people about the hazards of illegal street racing. Education Minister Sven Teuber (SPD) has stated that the program aims to empower students, boost their confidence, and confront them with the reality of street racing's consequences.
The initiative, originally developed in North Rhine-Westphalia and proven successful there, is now being adopted by Rhineland-Palatinate. It targets students around driving age and is rolled out in schools across the region. Petra Fischer-Wolfert, principal of the Speyer Comprehensive School (IGS), has expressed strong support for the project, calling it pedagogically valuable.
The program combines classroom lessons, graphic crash footage, group discussions, and legal case studies to educate students about the consequences of reckless driving. It encourages reflection among students and could potentially prevent accidents. Minister Teuber stressed that prevention is the top priority of the initiative, aiming to reach young people early and send a clear message that speeding is dangerous and can lead to fatal accidents.
