Revitalizing the long-dormant market stall is the new ambition of a local club.
The Transport Police and Railway Museum Association Pritzwalk, founded in July 2022, has made a significant impact in preserving and showcasing railway history in the town of Pritzwalk. One of the association's most notable achievements is the rescue of the counterpart signal box B1 from demolition.
On May 1, 2025, the Museum for Railway Technology and Railway Police History, housed within the preserved signal box B1, officially opened its doors to the public. However, it's important to note that the museum currently lacks basic amenities such as heating, electricity, and running water.
The signal box, which was in operation until April 2023, is now just one of the remaining structures. Regrettably, the interlocking signal box had to be demolished due to the introduction of computer-based control.
The museum, owned by Deutsche Bahn, is currently rented by the association. The association, which is seeking sponsors to aid in its maintenance and expansion, offers road safety education focused on railways for kindergartens and school groups.
Visitors can explore the museum on designated days: August 16, September 27, and October 18, from 1 to 4 PM on the first two dates, and from 12 to 3 PM on the third. It's advisable to make reservations by calling 0151/56784316 or sending an email to [email protected].
The association's second chairman, Christian Moschall, is a pedagogue by profession, bringing a wealth of educational experience to the association's initiatives. The museum's roof urgently needs repair due to overgrowth with ivy, and new windows are needed in the long term.
The Transport Police and Railway Museum Association Pritzwalk stands as a testament to the community's commitment to preserving railway heritage and educating the public about the importance of railway safety. For more information about the association or to become a sponsor, please visit their official website or contact them directly.
