Reutlingen’s empty shop windows become vibrant canvases for local creativity
A vibrant project called Our Diversity-lingen has transformed empty shop windows in Reutlingen’s city centre into creative displays. Since May, eight windows have showcased the work of local artists, schools, and community groups. The initiative, organised by Stadtmarketing und Tourismus Reutlingen GmbH (StaRT), aims to celebrate the town’s cultural richness and bring fresh energy to the high street.
The project began with a call for participants, inviting Reutlingen-based artists, school classes, nonprofits, and individuals to submit their ideas. Over 60 applications poured in, with a jury selecting 18 designers to take part. Each month, three of the eight windows in the Breuninger building at Marktplatz feature new content, ranging from art exhibitions to interactive installations and educational projects.
The initiative has breathed new life into Reutlingen’s city centre while spotlighting its creative and cultural talent. With plans to keep the project running long-term, more artists and community groups will have the chance to share their work. The windows at Marktplatz will remain a space for discovery, diversity, and local pride.
