Residence Highlight at EIOH - Profile of Dr. Zain Ahmed
Dr. Zain Ahmed, a dentist with an impressive background and a notable achievement in the field of orthodontics, has been making waves in the dental community. His expertise lies in dental public health and orthodontics, with a significant contribution to safer clinical procedures for patients with gum recession.
The U.S. Dental Public Health resident, currently associated with the University of Rochester’s Eastman Institute for Oral Health, was recognised for his pioneering work in May 2024. His groundbreaking orthodontic treatments have been instrumental in improving the lives of many patients.
Born in India, Dr. Ahmed has lived in Oman, UAE, and Canada before settling in the United States. His professional journey began during his Eastman residency, where he gained valuable experience in community dentistry, school-based dental programmes, prospective studies, and general practice dentistry.
After his graduation, Dr. Ahmed plans to find a community medical centre or FQHC and practice community dentistry, continuing his mission to serve those in need. His inspiration is Dr. Evan B. Rosen (Prostho '13), a fellow dentist whose perseverance and dedication towards academics and dentistry he admires.
Dr. Ahmed's favourite memory from his EIOH residency is the Thursday lectures with specific doctors. Despite his success, he is unsure if he would change anything about himself. His biggest inspiration, however, remains unmentioned.
Away from the dental chair, Dr. Ahmed's favourite meal is Hyderabadi Biryani, a traditional dish of rice and marinated meat slow cooked over wood or charcoal, flavoured with authentic Hyderabadi spices. The best advice he ever received was "Keep your head low and do your best; the rest will follow."
When asked about his future career goals, Dr. Ahmed chose Eastman due to its proximity and alumni connections, and his Eastman experience facilitated personal growth in patience and understanding. Interestingly, if Dr. Ahmed could have a superpower, he would choose the ability to read minds.
However, his greatest fear is not doing enough for the community, a testament to his commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those he serves. This fear underscores his dedication to his profession and his community, making Dr. Zain Ahmed a dentist to watch in the years to come.
