Reporter Experiences Tragic Loss: Parents Perish in Collision

In a tragic turn of events, the Kisii community is mourning the loss of two esteemed figures, Josiah Biyongo and his wife, Hellen Biyongo. The couple's bodies are currently being preserved at the Narok County Referral Hospital's mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examinations.

Josiah Biyongo, a retired teacher, ordained bishop, and former gubernatorial aspirant in Kisii County, dedicated his life to serving his community. Born and raised in Kisii, he began his educational journey at Magena Nursery and Primary School before moving on to Magena High School. His deep-rooted commitment to education continued throughout his life, as he also held a diploma in Theological Education by Extension (TEE) from the Kapsabet School of Divinity.

Hellen Biyongo, on the other hand, dedicated over 40 years to improving farming practices across Kenya. She began her career in Elgeyo Marakwet County, later moving to Uasin Gishu and eventually being posted to Kisii County, where she served until her retirement.

The couple's lives intertwined with the Anglican Church, as Josiah served as a member of the Parish Church Council (PCC) and a respected figure in various parishes. Hellen's ministry extended beyond farming, as she was also a trained psychotherapist and a registered member of the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association (KCPA).

The tragic accident that claimed their lives occurred on Wednesday at around 2pm near Osentu area along the Nakuru - Bomet highway. The couple died when their car collided head-on with a truck while attempting to overtake a convoy of vehicles.

The news of their passing has left a deep sense of sorrow in the Kisii community. Kisii Governor Simba Arati described Josiah Biyongo as "a courageous, respected, and distinguished leader." Edwin Nyarangi, a journalist at Standard Group, is experiencing a double tragedy as his parents died in this road accident. Nyarangi shared that his parents valued education and shaped their children's lives with lessons on humility.

The couple is survived by four sons, two of whom are employees of the Standard Group: Edwin Nyarangi and Darius Ondieki, known as DJ Darius, who works with Radio Maisha. DJ Darius expressed his grief on Facebook, asking for prayers and support during this difficult time.
