Repeating Their Triumph: News Website secures National Edward R. Murrow Award again for Climate Fixers series

The Climate Fixers digital video series, produced by our nonprofit news organisation, has once again been honoured with a prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award. This marks the third consecutive year that the series has received this accolade, recognising its commitment to informative, solution-oriented, and impactful climate journalism.

Funded by a grant from PBS, the Climate Fixers series features our Senior Reporter and Editor, Susan Phillips, who brings her extensive experience to the forefront, delivering a series of videos and stories that highlight the positive impact people are making in the fight against climate change.

The series, which focuses on the science, justice, and practical solutions to the climate crisis, has been lauded for its approachable and accessible style. It aims to educate the public, empower journalists, and tell comprehensive, justice-focused climate stories. Topics covered include the science and impacts of climate change, climate justice, debunking misinformation, and solutions and policies at various levels.

The series has been praised for its collaborative multiplatform journalism, with our News Photographers, Kimberly Paynter and Emma Lee, becoming drone pilots as a result of the grant. Notable stories from the series include "Slowing down 'fast fashion' with natural dyes" and "Climate-proofing Philly for a warmer growing season."

Sarah Glover, our Vice President of News and Civic Dialogue, commended the teamwork and collaborative efforts that went into creating the series. She said, "The Climate Fixers series is a testament to our commitment to providing high-quality, solution-oriented climate journalism that informs and inspires action."

The Radio Television Digital News Association, the world's largest professional organisation devoted exclusively to broadcast and digital journalism, presented the award. Our organisation also received four regional Murrow awards this past May and a national Murrow award last year for its coverage of the 2023 elections in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The Climate Fixers series continues to set a high standard for climate journalism, providing clear, fact-based reporting while challenging disinformation and highlighting effective climate responses. It is a shining example of the power of journalism as a service to the public, demonstrating technical expertise and exemplifying the importance of journalism in addressing critical issues like climate change.

Education and self-development in climate change journalism is highlighted through the Climate Fixers series, which aims to educate the public and empower journalists by delivering informative, solution-oriented, and impactful stories about the science, justice, and practical solutions to the climate crisis. In addition to this, the series offers entertainment value with engaging stories such as "Slowing down 'fast fashion' with natural dyes" and "Climate-proofing Philly for a warmer growing season."
