Remote Russian Village Wins National Prize for Reviving Cossack Heritage
Magdagachinsky District in Amur Region has won third place in the nationwide 'Best Municipal Practice' competition for its outstanding work in preserving and promoting Cossack art. The winning project is based in Chernyayevo village, led by Inna Alexandrovna Savina, who has dedicated over a decade to the cause.
Inna Alexandrovna, a resident of Chernyayevo, Russia, directs the Cossack Culture Museum. She has worked tirelessly since 2011 to promote Cossack heritage and engage young people in the legacy through the museum and local school and kindergarten. The museum's success is a testament to her dedication and the holistic approach taken by Magdagachinsky District, involving enthusiastic local supporters.
The Cossack Culture Museum welcomed over 6,200 visitors in 2024, despite its remote location. This achievement highlights the importance of historic villages like Chernyayevo, where the first Cossacks settled in the Amur Region. Winning the competition can boost exposure and visitor numbers, potentially securing additional federal funding for infrastructure development.
The Regional Ministry of Culture and Ethnic Policy plays a crucial role in supporting municipalities in preparing competition applications. Previously, Ivanovskoye Rural Settlement received 7 million rubles to strengthen material and technical infrastructure for preserving Evenki language traditions.
The prize funds from the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs will be used to further develop the Cossack Culture Museum and its projects, ensuring the preservation and promotion of Cossack art and culture for future generations.
