Race car competition success hinges on Chevron's use of hydrogen as a key ingredient

In a thrilling conclusion to the Singapore finals of the Hydrogen Grand Prix, Kruz Chan's team, Temasek Racers, emerged victorious. This global STEAM-based educational initiative, which is the world's largest hydrogen STEM competition, challenges high school students to design, build, and race remote-controlled hydrogen fuel cell cars.

The competition, sponsored by Chevron, drew 60 teams from four continents to the final race in Anaheim, California. Chevron, a company with extensive knowledge and experience in hydrogen, is focused on creating a hydrogen business offering lower carbon solutions to customers.

The Hydrogen Grand Prix serves as a real-world application for students to understand the potential uses of hydrogen in various fields. For Kruz Chan, a student at Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore, the competition was a unique opportunity to see hydrogen's potential in real time.

Meanwhile, high school student Ronan Johnson from Western Australia also made headlines by winning the competition. Ronan and his team advanced to the finals after winning a regional competition. The car that completed the most laps in six hours was declared the winner.

For Ronan, the competition wasn't just about winning. It also provided knowledge and skills that may help him in his future career in electrical engineering and renewable energy. Similarly, Kruz Chan felt that such competitions and courses give him hands-on experience in areas he might not have considered otherwise.

Chevron sponsored 20 teams in Singapore and 20 others in Australia, including Ronan Johnson's and Kruz Chan's teams, to encourage students to pursue careers in STEM. Andrew Mingst, general manager of Asia Pacific at Chevron New Energies, stated that Chevron is proud to support the Hydrogen Grand Prix program. The program aims to prepare tomorrow's STEM professionals to tackle complex challenges like developing lower carbon solutions to meet growing energy demands.

The Hydrogen Grand Prix plays a dual role by accelerating awareness and practical knowledge of hydrogen fuel cells for renewable energy while nurturing the next generation of STEM professionals through an engaging competition platform. The latest news about the hydrogen market can be found on Chevron's website.

In the Singapore finals, Temasek Racers' victory marked a significant milestone for Singapore in the Hydrogen Grand Prix. As the competition continues to grow, it is expected to inspire more young innovators to explore the exciting world of hydrogen and renewable energy.
