Student Julika Burggraf Advances to National Youth Debates Final

Julika Burggraf, a 10th grader from Eutiner Johann-Heinrich-Voss-Gymnasium, has made it to the national final of the "Youth debates" (Jugend debattiert) competition. This achievement showcases her exceptional debating skills, critical thinking, and public speaking abilities.

A Rising Star in Debating

Julika's journey in debating began three years ago, and her progress has been remarkable. She recently advanced to the national debate in Berlin after winning the regional and state finals. Her performance was highly commended by the jury, who praised her high expertise and ability to consider arguments from all sides.

Eutiner Johann-Heinrich-Voss-Gymnasium's Commitment to Debating

The school's success in the competition is a testament to the Eutiner Johann-Heinrich-Voss-Gymnasium's commitment to the "Youth debates" project. This initiative, a nationwide educational programme in Germany, aims to nurture debating skills, critical thinking, and respectful discourse among young students. At the school, students are trained in argumentation, rhetoric, and current social and political topics.

Preparing for the National Debate

Currently, Julika is attending a seminar in Bavaria to prepare for the national debate, which will take place in Berlin on June 5, 6, and 7. Teacher Lars Steinmann, who teaches economics/politics and philosophy at the Voss school, has been the driving force behind the "Youth debates" programme at the gymnasium for seven years. He believes that the art of debate deepens the formation of judgment and is crucial for bringing students to independent thinking.

A Talented Family

Julika is not alone in her debating prowess. Her younger sister Lenja is also a talented debater, following in her footsteps. The Burggraf family's dedication to debating and critical thinking is evident in their active participation in the "Youth debates" programme.
