Professional Mentors Seeks More Volunteers to Support Young People

The 'Professional Mentors' project, active since 2008, is supporting young people in job training and career orientation. Currently, 21 mentees are being guided, mostly in apprenticeships. The project is seeking more volunteers to mentor young people in the region.

Carina Wetekam, a 10th grader from Gustav-Heinemann-Realschule, is having her first job interview with professional mentors Bernhard Boss and Ernst Blömeke. The mentors observe the candidate's demeanor and understanding of the job profile during the mock interview. They support mentees not only in job interview preparation but also in career orientation, job applications, internships, and apprenticeships. Two mentees have already completed their apprenticeships as IT clerks and housekeepers, with one progressing to university. The project also includes 'Mentors for a Time', assisting young people, often with migration or refugee backgrounds, in transitioning from school to work.

Interested parties can contact coordinator Brigitte Vogler at 0561−1003 1275 or via email at [email protected] for more information. The project aims to expand its reach and support more young people in the region with the help of additional volunteers.
