Potsdam's Journeys in Light Festival Illuminates the City with Free Culture
Potsdam's open-air season will kick off on January 24, 2026, with the Journeys in Light festival. The event transforms the city centre into a vibrant hub of light, music, and cultural activities from morning until evening.
The festival runs from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering free entry to key landmarks. The Potsdam Museum, Barberini Studio, and Garrison Church will open their doors to the public. Visitors can also climb the tower of St. Nicholas Church or join guided tours—though booking is required through the Potsdam Museum's website.
Throughout the day, the Old Market Square hosts a Lantern Gathering with live performances. A fire bowl will glow at the centre, while attendees can craft their own lanterns. The event blends creativity, history, and community in a single celebration.
This year's Journeys in Light marks the start of Potsdam's open-air calendar. Free access to museums and interactive activities aims to draw crowds to the city centre. The festival's mix of art, music, and hands-on experiences provides a bright start to 2026.
