Potsdam pledges €185.7M to upgrade schools and public infrastructure by 2029
Potsdam has announced a major investment push in education and public infrastructure over the next four years. Despite tight budgets, the city will spend around €185.7 million on key projects from 2026 to 2029, including €149.4 million for educational and childcare facilities like the Montessori Secondary School and the Michael Ende Elementary School. The city's investment calculator shows that 80% of the budget will go towards modernising ageing buildings and expanding capacity where needed most. The 2026 budget alone sets aside €43.45 million for investments, with €32.77 million earmarked for education. Among the biggest projects is the renovation and expansion of the Montessori Secondary School, costing roughly €37.2 million, and the acquisition of the Michael Ende Elementary School by 2028. Beyond schools, €4.28 million will go towards refurbishing the Nikolaisaal Potsdam concert hall. City officials have stressed their commitment to maintaining public services despite financial challenges, with fidelity to the investment plan remaining a top priority.
