PM Modi Launches PMDDKY to Transform 100 Low-Performing Districts
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) nationwide. The scheme aims to transform 100 low-performing agricultural districts by integrating 36 existing government programmes. It seeks to enhance productivity, promote sustainable farming, and boost farmers' income.
The PMDDKY was launched at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi, coinciding with the birth anniversaries of Bharat Ratnas Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh. The scheme will be implemented from the current Rabi season until 2030-31.
To mark the national start, a district-level celebration was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Dibrugarh, Assam. Over 250 farmers and officials attended the event. Dr. Devajit Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dibrugarh, briefed the gathering on the scheme's objectives and expected outcomes. These include enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming, strengthening irrigation infrastructure, improving post-harvest management, and facilitating access to agricultural credit.
The PMDDKY aims to transform agriculture in 100 districts across India, boosting farmers' income and ensuring protein security. With its implementation spanning from the current Rabi season to 2030-31, the scheme seeks to build resilience in India's agriculture sector.
