PM Modi Boosts Farmers' Income with Record MSP Hikes for Rabi Crops
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who heads the Cabinet Committee on Economics, has approved a significant increase in minimum support prices (MSP) for all mandated rabi crops for the 2026-27 marketing season. Farmers in Haryana have welcomed this decision, dubbing it a 'Diwali bumper gift'.
The new MSP will provide farmers with substantial margins over the average cost of production. For wheat, the margin is set at 109 per cent, while for rapeseed and mustard, it's 93 per cent. Lentil farmers will receive an 89 per cent margin, and for gram, barley, and safflower, the margins are 59 per cent, 58 per cent, and 50 per cent respectively.
Balwan Singh and Shyam Sundar Sharma, two farmers, expressed their gratitude for the decision. They noted that this increase, along with the annual MSP hikes under Prime Minister Modi's government, will bring real economic relief to farmers. Subhash, another farmer from Gangwa village, echoed their sentiments, anticipating a significant improvement in farmers' income.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a substantial increase in MSP for all mandated rabi crops. This decision aims to ensure farmers receive remunerative prices for their produce and to encourage crop diversification. Farmers have welcomed this move, expressing optimism about their economic prospects.
