The image shows a large group of people in a store with shopping carts, standing on the floor and some of them holding bags. There are poles with ribbons, racks with objects, boards with text, lights on the ceiling, and other objects in the background. The text on the boards suggests that the store is a Walmart, and the people in the image are likely shopping for Black Friday deals.

Pi Day 2025: How Math's Favorite Holiday Became a Shopping Spree

March 14 marks Pi Day, an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π. The date, 3/14, reflects the first three digits of Pi. Over the years, the event has grown beyond maths enthusiasts, with retailers and restaurants offering themed discounts on everything from pies to tech gadgets.

This year's deals span beauty, homeware, electronics, and even fast food, with brands like Blaze Pizza and Burger King joining in the fun.

Pi Day began in 1988 as a nod to the famous number, but its appeal has widened. Bakeries and pizzerias now use the day to promote round treats, playing on the word 'pie'. Fast-food chains have followed suit, with Blaze Pizza offering a second 11-inch pizza for just $3.14 when customers buy one via their app. Burger King, meanwhile, is giving Royal Perks members a free Hershey's Sundae Pie or Cinnamon Apple Pie with any $3.14 purchase.

Retailers have also jumped on the trend with discounts across multiple categories. In tech, the JBL Flip 7 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is down by 27%, while the HP 14-inch Chromebook sees a 54% reduction. Home shoppers can save 50% on a Shark Pet Cordless Vacuum or 64% on a Zwilling J.A. Henckels knife.

Fitness and fashion deals include 52% off New Balance's FuelCell Propel V5 running shoes and 60% off a Beis Belt Bag. Wellness offers feature 20% off the Owala FreeSip Sway water bottle and 42% off a Hydroflask 21-ounce bottle. Beauty bargains round out the list, with 50% off Elta MD UV Clear sunscreen and the Babybliss Nano Titanium hair straightener.

The discounts highlight how Pi Day has evolved into a commercial event, blending maths with shopping. Restaurants and stores continue to use the date as a hook for promotions, particularly on round-shaped items. This year's offers cover a wide range of products, making the celebration more accessible to a broader audience.
