Philhealth Advocates for Expanded Coverage in Davao Oriental

Lively Lowdown:

Situated in Mati City, Davao Oriental, PhilHealth's Local Health Insurance Office is pulling all the stops to extend health benefits to more residents. With an eye on the Konsulta Program, they're accelerating the accreditation of healthcare facilities, targeting a broader population around the region.

As of February 2025, no less than 17 providers have been certified, including 16 government entities and a private facility. The push for private facilities ensures a larger portion of the population gains access to these programs, Jonas Matthew Pang, LHIO-Mati's chief social insurance officer, confirmed.

Government hospitals and health units have already received the green light for accreditation, but private establishments in each locale are also under consideration to maximize member benefits. To keep the list fresh, new applicants are assessed and approved for accreditation on an ongoing basis, adding facilities as needed.

Pang was thrilled to announce that the City Health Office (CHO) in Mati has been accredited to deliver recent additions to PhilHealth services, such as outpatient mental health and preventive oral services. Being the first in Region 11 and Mindanao to offer these, the CHO-Mati now stands as a leading light in health services across the region.

Membership registration is essential for availing these benefits, so LHIO-Mati is making a concerted effort to educate residents via information campaigns and active participation in caravans. As of December last year, over 83 percent of Davao Oriental's population - around 500,000 residents - have already registered with PhilHealth.

To top it all off, PhilHealth-Mati personnel have established service desks at various local government units across the province to facilitate membership registration and address other concerns. So, residents no longer need to trek all the way to Mati; PhilHealth services can now be accessed closer to home.

In the towns of Banaybanay and Lupon, the service desk is open every Tuesday at the Rural Health Units. Unfortunately, specific days of operation for San Isidro and Governor Generoso weren't detailed, but you can coordinate service desk visits directly with PhilHealth. Other areas in the province have customized schedules for visits. Stay tuned for updates!
