Pankaj Bhujbal Honored for Revolutionizing Education Through Global Innovation
Mr. Pankaj Bhujbal, Hon'ble Trustee of Mumbai Educational Trust (MET), has received the 'Distinguished Academic Leadership Award' at the 5th CiiA Innovation Awards 2026. The recognition highlights his decades-long commitment to transforming education through industry partnerships and global collaborations.
The award was presented by Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan, Advisor & Professor of Eminence at Reliance Jio University, Mumbai. It celebrates leaders who strengthen educational ecosystems and develop innovations for societal progress.
Mr. Bhujbal took over MET's leadership in 1989, succeeding Chaggan Bhujbal. Since then, the institution has forged key alliances with major corporations like Tata and Reliance. These partnerships provide students with internships, job placements, and access to funded research labs.
Under his guidance, MET has also expanded its international reach. Collaborations with universities in the US, UK, and Australia now include student exchange programmes and dual-degree options, established after 2010. The trust has grown its academic offerings across Management, Media, Pharmacy, IT, International Studies, and K-12 education.
Mr. Bhujbal's vision emphasises experiential learning, real-world relevance, and strong academic values. He has strengthened MET's governance, fostering innovation and closer ties between education and industry. His approach centres on building future-ready leaders through research, industry engagement, and impactful teaching.
A Member of the Legislative Council of Maharashtra, he remains a prominent figure in public life. His work focuses on advancing excellence in education, society, and culture.
The award underscores Mr. Bhujbal's role in shaping MET into a forward-looking institution. His leadership has expanded industry-academia partnerships and global academic exchanges. The trust continues to prioritise innovation and real-world learning under his direction.
