Oxford teams up with Google to roll out AI tools for education
The University of Oxford has partnered with Google to bring advanced AI tools to its students, faculty, and staff. The collaboration will provide access to Gemini for Education and NotebookLM through the university’s secure Google for Education workspace.
The move follows a successful pilot programme that tested these tools within the institution.
Google’s AI suite will be available to Oxford users via their existing university accounts. The tools include Gemini 3, the latest AI model from Google, along with Guided Learning, which offers step-by-step support instead of direct answers.
Another key feature is Deep Research, an AI assistant designed to help develop research plans and summarise findings. The decision to expand access came after positive feedback from the pilot phase.
Pro licences will be distributed through individual colleges and departments, ensuring controlled and secure access across the university.
The partnership aims to improve learning, teaching, and collaboration at Oxford. Students and staff will now use AI-powered tools to streamline research, problem-solving, and academic work. The university’s secure workspace ensures that all data remains protected under institutional policies.
