OpenAI’s Nonprofit AI Jam debuts in India to boost responsible tech adoption
OpenAI is launching its first Nonprofit AI Jam in India next month. The event will run from January 15 to 20 across four cities: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi. Pragya Misra, OpenAI’s Head of Strategy and Global Affairs in India, is leading the initiative to help nonprofits integrate artificial intelligence into their operations.
The programme marks OpenAI’s first effort to bring the Nonprofit AI Jam to India. Its goal is to support organisations in adopting AI responsibly and sustainably. Sessions will focus on practical work, guiding nonprofits from early experiments to full deployment of AI tools.
Each selected nonprofit can send up to two representatives. Applications require details on how the organisation currently uses AI, its readiness for adoption, and the expected benefits. Wadhwani AI is contributing as a knowledge partner, while Karya—a nonprofit specialising in AI-based earning and learning for low-income groups—is the delivery partner. The event targets nonprofits looking to move beyond basic AI trials. Participants will receive hands-on guidance to develop long-term strategies for implementation.
The five-day workshop will take place simultaneously in four major Indian cities. Nonprofits attending will gain practical skills to embed AI into their daily work. The initiative aims to build capacity for responsible and lasting AI adoption in the sector.
