Only 15% of Brandenburg pupils pass Gymnasium trial lessons for 2026

Over 20,000 pupils in Brandenburg will move to secondary education next school year. Some of them recently took part in trial lessons to secure a place at Gymnasium. The results show how many students succeeded in making the transition. In Brandenburg, 673 students were invited to trial classes for a Gymnasium spot. Out of these, 515 attended, and 79 passed the trial period. This gives a success rate of 15.4 percent for those who attempted the transfer.

Meanwhile, in Berlin, 1,223 students tried for *Gymnasium* places through trial lessons. Only 1.22 percent of them received a recommendation to attend. Before the trials, 9,000 Brandenburg pupils listed *Gymnasium* as their first choice for secondary school. Another 7,000 chose it as their second preference. Education Minister Gordon Hoffmann (CDU) commented that the trial periods help most students find the right educational path.

The trial results determine which pupils will attend Gymnasium in the 2026/27 school year. Brandenburg's 79 successful students will now prepare for the transition. Berlin's figures, however, show far fewer students gaining recommendations through the same process.
