Online attestation of sick leave now available instantly in UAE

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has simplified the process for issuing and attesting sick leaves and medical reports for residents. This move is part of the UAE's Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, designed to minimize paperwork, decrease waiting times, and improve user experience.

Residents can now speed up the attestation of medical leaves through MoHAP's online system, accessible via its website or app, using UAE Pass for a fee of 50 dirhams. The enhanced digital attestation service aims to enhance efficiency, reduce transaction times, and boost overall customer satisfaction.

For sick leaves lasting five days or less, the attestation will be done instantly. In cases where the leave is issued at a private or government health facility in Sharjah or the northern emirates, the attestation will take place at the treatment facility itself. If the sick leave lasts more than five days but does not extend beyond one month, it will need electronic attestation, followed by approval from the medical sub-committee in the respective emirate. Decisions from these committees will be communicated within one working day. If the leave exceeds one month, it will require electronic attestation, approval from the Higher Medical Committee of MoHAP, and a review.

Certain tips should be remembered when using private health facilities for sick leave documentation. The facility must be licensed, and the attestation request should be submitted within one month from the date the sick leave was issued. If the sick leave has already been attested by a recognized health authority in the UAE, no additional attestation is necessary from MoHAP. Medical reports or sick leaves issued by institutions outside the UAE must be certified first by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then by MoHAP before being referred to the relevant medical committee for review and approval.

Those seeking sick leave attestation can look forward to a streamlined, smart system that offers easy access, swift completion, and transparency, according to Abdullah Ahli, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services Sector at MoHAP. The aim is to strengthen customer trust in the healthcare system, continuously improve the user experience, and adapt service delivery channels to meet current and future needs. Amal Al Marzooqi, Director of the Customer Happiness Department, added that the system is designed to be flexible, fast, and transparent while enhancing customer confidence in the healthcare system.
