OneTaste Co-Founder Nicole Daedone Sentenced to Nine Years for Forced Labor

Nicole Daedone, the co-founder of the controversial self-help group OneTaste Inc., has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison. The conviction follows charges of forced labour, with prosecutors alleging she and another executive used abuse and indoctrination to coerce members into sexual acts. Daedone's legal team had pushed for a lighter sentence, pointing to her clean criminal record and community backing.

Daedone launched OneTaste Inc. in 2004, marketing 'orgasmic meditation' as a tool for sexual and emotional well-being. The organisation grew rapidly, gaining positive media attention in the 2010s and expanding internationally. By 2017, however, scrutiny over its practices began to mount.

That same year, Daedone sold her stake in the company for $12 million. Shortly after, new owners—including the Institute of OM Foundation—took over and restructured operations. They separated OM training from other activities and shifted the business abroad amid mounting legal pressure in the U.S. Today, the rebranded Institute of OM Foundation runs retreats and teacher training primarily in Prague and Byron Bay, with no physical centres left in the U.S. The current leadership has dismissed the charges against former executives as unfounded. Meanwhile, prosecutors had sought a 20-year term for Daedone, highlighting the lasting emotional harm inflicted on victims. In addition to her prison sentence, Daedone was ordered to forfeit the $12 million she received from the sale of her shares.

The nine-year sentence marks the end of a high-profile case tied to OneTaste's operations. Daedone's forfeiture of $12 million reflects the financial stakes of the legal battle. The organisation, now operating under new ownership, continues its activities overseas but faces lingering scrutiny over its past practices.
