Oleg Belozorov exits after reshaping Russia’s rail network for a decade

Oleg Belozorov has stepped down after leading Russian Railways for over a decade. His tenure began in August 2015, when he took over as president of the state-owned company. During this time, he oversaw major changes in infrastructure, technology, and service improvements across the network.

Belozorov’s early years in charge saw a push to modernise Russia’s key rail routes. In 2016, he launched a large-scale investment project to upgrade the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and the Trans-Siberian Railway (Transsib). That same year, passenger services were improved by extending the advance ticket sales period from 45 to 90 days.

Belozorov’s departure marks the end of an era for Russian Railways. His decade-long leadership saw sweeping modernisation, from digital upgrades to the expansion of critical rail corridors. The company now operates with a renewed fleet, improved logistics, and a stronger focus on eastern trade routes.
