The city sold the area to the sponsor in 2012 with the condition that a kindergarten would be created there. Michael Merten, a father from the beginning, was active in the parents' council for five years. He played a significant role in helping the kindergarten navigate through its early financial struggles.
The kindergarten has also been a topic of debate in city politics. The conflict over the Obermayr Sonnenberg Kindergarten was brought into city politics by Mayor Bauer and the late Dr. Werner Jopp. Despite the challenges, the kindergarten has become an integral part of the community.
In recent years, the Kindertagesstätte Herz Jesu in Wiesbaden Sonnenberg has announced plans to expand. Renovation work is underway, resulting in 30 additional places for children under and over three years old by 2021.
