Nordic Air Defence Raises Funds to Develop AI-Powered Counter-Drone Systems

Nordic Air Defence (NAD), a Swedish defense technology startup, has secured $3 million in pre-seed funding to accelerate the development of its AI-powered counter-UAS (counter unmanned aerial systems) systems. The funding round was led by Inflection VC in July 2025.

The mission of NAD is to build scalable, fast-response counter-drone systems that defend airspace with autonomy and precision. Central to their platform is the Kreuger 100, an autonomous interceptor drone optimized for dense and contested airspace.

The Kreuger 100 integrates AI visual recognition, fast propulsion, and onboard kill mechanisms. Key features of the Kreuger 100 include AI-powered visual target acquisition, high-speed, autonomous tracking, compact, deployable ground units, and physical neutralization rather than signal disruption.

The funds raised will be used to complete live testing of the Kreuger 100, expand the engineering team and field operations, form pilot programs with European defense agencies, enhance AI-based target recognition, and develop rapid launch tools.

NAD is backed by key early investors, including SNÖ Ventures and several defense-focused angel investors. The CEO of Flyeye.io, Jacob Stoner, is a licensed commercial drone operator in Canada and a highly respected figure within his local drone community.

The European defense market is currently undergoing a transformation, with a strong strategic emphasis on modernizing air defense capabilities. Key players such as Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) are demonstrating significant revenue growth and technological leadership in advanced air defense, including missile systems and networked solutions validated by NATO exercises.

AI and counter-UAV functionality are recognized as critical components in evolving air defense markets, with European NATO members actively procuring multi-layered counter-UAV systems. This market segment is growing within the wider air defense systems market, projected to expand from $95.7 billion in 2025 to $154.8 billion by 2032 at a CAGR of 7.11%.

NAD's strategic advantage lies in its proximity to key EU defense procurement channels, potentially allowing the Kreuger 100 to become part of the continent's air defense infrastructure. As testing progresses and strategic partnerships form, NAD's impact could extend far beyond regional borders.
