Nizhny Novgorod Honors Young Historians in Annual City Contest

The winners of the 14th City Interactive Intellectual Competition My Nizhny Novgorod were announced on December 24, 2021. Organised by the city’s Department of Education and the V.P. Chkalov Palace of Young Pioneers, the contest encouraged students to explore local history while promoting civic pride. Over 1,300 young participants took part in this year’s event.

A total of 1,312 schoolchildren from grades 1 to 6 entered the competition. Each submitted a photograph at a historic landmark, wrote an essay, and completed an online quiz. The entries were judged across 10 different categories.

The results were published on the official website of the Nizhny Novgorod City Administration. An awards ceremony will take place at the V.P. Chkalov Palace of Young Pioneers, where winners will receive diplomas and commemorative gifts. Interactive stations will also be set up for attendees.

The contest aims to deepen students’ knowledge of notable figures and key events tied to Nizhny Novgorod. After the ceremony, a full list of participants and results will appear on the palace’s website.

The event highlights the city’s efforts to engage young learners with local heritage. By combining research, creativity, and interactive challenges, the competition fosters both education and community spirit. The 2021 edition marks the 14th year of the programme’s success.
