Nizhny Novgorod appoints new leaders for key educational institutions
Nizhny Novgorod has seen two major appointments in its education sector this month. Irina Yaremenko now leads the Provincial College, while Alexander Nikishin takes charge of the Industrial College. Both bring years of experience to their new roles. Irina Yaremenko started her career as a kindergarten teacher before moving into administration. She later worked as an educational organiser and deputy director for academic and vocational training. More recently, she chaired the college's trade union for educators and students. Her appointment follows Natalia Katysheva's departure from the role.
Meanwhile, Alexander Nikishin has been named director of Nizhny Novgorod Industrial College. With a background in administrative positions, he now oversees the Professionalitet initiative in mechanical engineering. His main task is to improve the performance of the cluster and raise its standards.
The changes come as 20 local educators advance to the regional finals of Russia's Teacher of the Year competition. Education Minister Mikhail Puchkov has not yet commented on the new appointments or the competition results. Yaremenko's leadership at the Provincial College marks a shift from her previous union work. Nikishin's focus on mechanical engineering could bring changes to the Industrial College's technical programmes. Both directors will now shape the region's educational direction in their respective fields.
