Nigeria and Coventry University launch new Lagos campus for 2026
The Nigerian Federal Government has teamed up with Coventry University to open a new campus in Alaro City, Lagos State. This partnership falls under a Transnational Education (TNE) agreement, designed to bring internationally recognised degrees to Nigerian students at a lower cost.
The initiative will offer Bachelor's and Master's programmes in key fields such as STEMM, Business, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). All degrees awarded will hold the same value as those from the university's UK campuses.
The project aims to ease the financial burden of studying abroad while improving access to high-quality education. It also seeks to boost skills development in high-demand sectors, enhancing graduate employability. Admissions are set to begin between the third and fourth quarters of 2026, pending regulatory approval. The UK's Department for Business and Trade is backing the partnership, reinforcing its focus on expanding educational opportunities.
The new campus will provide Nigerian students with affordable, globally recognised qualifications. By reducing the need for overseas study, the programme intends to strengthen local workforce skills and meet industry demands. The first intake of students will depend on final regulatory clearance.
