New Building in Altona: German-French High School Awaits Move-In
Hamburg-Altona’s new German-French High School is almost ready to welcome students. The modern building, part of the Struensee-Campus, sits near the Elbe and next to Königstraße S-Bahn station. Its completion marks a major step forward for education in the area.
The school’s official handover took place in mid-November 2025, wrapping up the construction phase. By early 2026, the building will be fully prepared for students, with most grade levels moving in at the start of the second semester.
The design focuses on open, light-filled spaces centred around a large atrium. This area serves as a social and communication hub for pupils. High-quality materials and a muted colour scheme were chosen to create a calm yet flexible learning environment. Outdoor facilities are also nearly finished. These include soccer and basketball fields, a 100-metre running track, and climbing and fitness stations. Quiet zones and social areas have been added to support different student needs. A new six-court sports hall is under construction, using prefabricated elements to meet the tight schedule.
The relocation to Struenseestraße in Altona brings the school closer to public transport and the Elbe. Full operations will begin in early 2026, offering students modern classrooms, sports facilities, and outdoor spaces. The project represents a key development for education along the river.
