Near-Death Survivors Share Life-Changing Stories at IANDS Conference
Over 700 people gathered at the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) conference this year. Among them were near-death experiencers, or NDErs, who stood out for their lively presence and personal stories. The event included discussions, panel talks, and even a dance party with nearly 300 attendees.
Evan Mecham, the newly elected president of IANDS, spoke openly about his own near-death experience. His ordeal began with a car accident involving a semi-truck. During the incident, he described overwhelming feelings of gratitude, love, and a sense of connection to another dimension. After recovering, Mecham said the experience changed his life—he became kinder, adopted a vegetarian diet, and focused more on his family.
NDErs at the conference were easy to spot. Many wore bright green ribbons on their badges, marking them as 'Experiencers.' Others were recognised from their books or appearances on discussion panels. The dance party, in particular, was filled with long-time IANDS members, who danced with noticeable enthusiasm. The event drew a diverse crowd, with some attendees already well-known in near-death research circles. Their shared experiences created a sense of community, especially during the lively evening celebrations.
The IANDS conference brought together hundreds of people, from researchers to those who had lived through near-death experiences. Mecham’s story and the visible camaraderie among attendees highlighted the event’s focus on personal transformation and shared understanding. The green ribbons, uninhibited dancing, and open discussions left a lasting impression on participants.
