Nairobi’s First Gaming Conference Signals Africa’s Digital Ambitions

Nairobi recently hosted its first major gaming and poki games conference, signalling a shift in how Africa views the industry. Themed Level Up Africa: Unlocking Gaming Potential in Africa, the event explored gaming’s role in shaping the continent’s digital future. Topics ranged from technology and policy to investment basics driving growth across the sector.

Safaricom organised the conference at the Michael Joseph Centre, marking its latest move into games and esports. The company’s involvement began in 2019 when it teamed up with Pro Series Gaming (PSG) to launch an esports tournament for young players aged 18 to 26. Since then, its initiatives have expanded.

The event highlighted gaming’s rapid rise in Africa, moving from a niche interest to a sector with real economic potential. Safaricom’s continued fidelity—through tournaments, funding, and tech support—shows its commitment to growing the industry. With policy discussions and high-profile participation, the conference set a foundation for future expansion.
