Multigenerational Home in Lünen (VHS): Collaboration for Learning and Social Interaction

In the heart of Luenen, the Adult Education Center (VHS) and the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus have joined forces to create a vibrant and inclusive community. This collaboration, which began on September 4, 2025, aims to combine local educational offerings with intergenerational meeting formats.

The free and accessible Deutsch Sprachcafe, held every Wednesday from 10:00 to 12:30 at the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, Luisenhuettenstrasse 25, is one such initiative. Here, participants can practice German, overcome inhibitions, and make valuable contacts. The Sprachcafe is funded with means from the development allowance of the Further Education Act and is open to all, regardless of registration.

Tim Jesella, coordinator of the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, emphasizes the importance of this cooperation in expanding the basic idea of encounter, openness, and togetherness. He aims to expand the range of offerings for encounters, learning, and joint activities through cooperation with VHS Lünen, with a focus on openness, community, and adding new educational and cultural programs to reach more people in Lünen.

The facilities of the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus, with their open design, are suitable for events with an exchange character. In addition to the Deutsch Sprachcafe, further joint events are planned, including a wine seminar and summer events on the sun terrace.

The collaboration also connects low-threshold meeting offers with educational formats, making lifelong learning tangible for all generations. Bjoern Falke, director of VHS Luenen, emphasizes that this cooperation creates real added value for the people in Luenen.

The collaboration emerged in the network 'Luenen moves education', which brings together institutions, associations, and facilities to strengthen education in Luenen. Regular exchange within this network laid the foundation for the cooperation between VHS and Mehrgenerationenhaus.

Through this collaboration, the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus now offers additional educational and cultural events. These include craft and creativity circles, senior gymnastics, baby massage, communal lunch, colorful afternoons, and an annual Christmas bazaar.

The collaboration also aims to contribute to the diversity of society and overcome prejudices. Mine Piristine, head of the program area at VHS Luenen, stated that the Sprachcafe offers an opportunity for those who want to continue learning after the integration course.

In conclusion, the collaboration between VHS Luenen and the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and vibrant community in Luenen. The open-door policy and diverse range of events make the DRK Mehrgenerationenhaus an ideal meeting point for all generations.
