Month of Focus on Sexual Assault Awareness 2025 in April
April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) at Holy Cross College, a time dedicated to raising awareness, empowering survivors, and promoting community support. Here's a rundown of the events happening on campus this month.
On April 2nd, Alex Prout, co-founder of I Have The Right To and father of sexual assault survivor Chessy Prout, will deliver a keynote address titled "Aspirational Masculinity: A Survivor's Father in the Fight Against Sexual Assault." The talk will take place from 4:00-5:00pm in the Prior Performing Arts Center. A student lunch discussion on the same topic will take place on the same day, from 12:00-1:00pm in Hogan 519.
Take Back the Night, the oldest worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence, will take place on the Hogan Oval at 7:00pm. The event aims to raise awareness, empower survivors to share their stories, and promote community support and safer environments. The walk includes listening to stories and ends with refreshments and reflection. Wearing jeans is encouraged as a visible protest against harmful myths.
On April 3rd, Pamela Plante (RN, BSN, MA-SANE), Central MA SANE Regional Coordinator, will conduct a training on the role of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) and how they support survivors. The session will take place at 3:00pm in Hogan 408.
The Clothesline Project, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about sexual violence through t-shirts designed by survivors, will be displayed from March 31st to April 4th, at Hogan 1. Students, faculty, and staff can also learn about on-campus resources and create their own t-shirts as survivors or allies during the Clothesline Project.
Partnership with Pathways for Change and the College will display t-shirts from the Worcester Clothesline Project and motivational messages created by Relationship Peer Educators (RPEs).
The Consent Rocks! event will take place on April 11th, from 9:00am - 12:00pm on the Hogan Oval. Visitors can paint rocks while learning about consent.
On April 15th, an LGBTQIA+ Voices Panel will take place from 12:00 - 1:30pm at Rehm Library, highlighting LGBTQIA+ student, faculty, and staff perspectives on healthy relationships.
Denim Day & Take Back The Night: A Day of Activism will take place on April 30th. More information about this event can be found at denimday.org. No further details were provided about this event.
