Military Vet and Mom of Five Graduates Summa Cum Laude at 44

Rossalynn Thomas, a 44-year-old military veteran and mother of five, has graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University. She earned her bachelor's degree in Leadership Studies, proving that persistence and hard work can overcome even the toughest challenges. Her achievement serves as a reminder that education has no age limit—and neither do dreams.

Thomas's academic journey was far from straightforward. A nearly 13-year military career and the responsibility of caring for her sick mother often threatened to derail her studies. Family duties and other obligations forced her to pause her education multiple times.

The turning point came in 2023, when a layoff pushed her to rethink her future. She enrolled in Texas Tech's online programme, focusing on talent development, strategic healthcare leadership, and organisational leadership. Balancing coursework with her busy life demanded discipline, but she refused to give up.

Her efforts paid off in a remarkable way. On her 44th birthday, she received her diploma—an accomplishment made sweeter by the support of her loved ones. Texas Tech also recognised her as one of its top graduates, selecting her as the banner carrier for the School of Professional Studies.

Thomas's graduation marks the end of a long and demanding path. She now holds a degree earned through resilience, adaptability, and the encouragement of those around her. Her story stands as proof that determination can turn obstacles into milestones.
