Mfantsipim School launches historic 150th anniversary celebrations in Ghana
Mfantsipim School has begun celebrations for its 150th Anniversary, marking a century and a half of influence in Ghana's education and leadership. The milestone was announced at a Pre-Launch Press Briefing held at the MOBA Secretariat in Accra, attended by alumni, officials, and faith leaders.
The school's legacy includes shaping generations through values like integrity, humility, and accountability, while producing global figures in politics, business, and academia.
The celebrations kicked off with the unveiling of a special 150th Anniversary logo, symbolising the school's rich history and future ambitions. A commemorative cloth will also be officially revealed on March 20th at Wesley Towers in Accra.
At the briefing, Captain John B. Yamoah described the anniversary as a time for reflection, renewal, and a recommitment to the school's founding principles. He also clarified that the institution's correct name remains Mfantsipim School— or simply Mfantsipim —and warned against any misrepresentation.
Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey highlighted the school's role in shaping Ghana's moral, intellectual, and leadership qualities over the past 150 years. Prof Ernest Kofi Davis, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, echoed this, praising Mfantsipim's enduring contribution to academic excellence and national leadership.
The school's alumni network, the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA), has played a key role in organising the anniversary events. Among its graduates are over 100 distinguished figures, including former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Ghanaian presidents, judges, and leading academics. These individuals have excelled globally in fields ranging from politics and science to business and culture.
The 150th Anniversary celebrations will continue with a series of events led by MOBA, the Governing Council, and the Anniversary Planning Committee. The school's focus remains on upholding its core virtues while inspiring future generations.
The commemorative cloth unveiling on March 20th will mark the next phase of the anniversary, bringing together alumni and supporters to honour Mfantsipim's enduring impact.
