Mexican students begin winter break as schools pause for holidays
Mexican schools have entered their winter break, giving students a pause after months of classes. The holiday period began on December 22, 2025, aligning with the festive season and lasting until early January. Meanwhile, teachers and staff will return slightly earlier to prepare for the new term.
Preschool, elementary, and middle school pupils across Mexico started their winter recess on Monday, December 22, 2025. This break usually spans a couple of weeks, overlapping with Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Students are set to return to classrooms on Monday, January 12, 2026. Teachers and administrative staff, however, will go back to work on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, to finalise preparations for the upcoming term. Another short pause follows later in January. On Friday, January 30, 2026, schools will close again for a regular session of the School Technical Council. This holiday coincides with Constitution Day, a national observance on February 2, 2026. In comparison, German schools often restart classes earlier after winter holidays. Most pupils in Germany return by January 6, 2026—Epiphany, or Three Kings’ Day—though some regions, like Berlin, begin on January 7 instead.
The winter break offers Mexican students a lengthy rest before the new term. With staff returning on January 7 and classes resuming on January 12, schools will soon be back in full swing. Another brief holiday at the end of January will mark Constitution Day, providing a mid-term pause for both students and educators.
