Memmingen's JBS School Earns Rare Inclusive and Autonomous Education Status

The Johann-Bierwirth-Schule (JBS) in Memmingen has reached two major milestones in education. On 15 November 2023, the Bavarian Department of Education awarded it the Inclusive School Profile certification. The school also secured Modus status—a distinction no other state-run vocational centre in Swabia currently holds.

The certification was presented by Education Minister Anna Stolz in Munich. She recognised JBS for its collaborative approach to inclusive learning, involving teachers from construction, wood technology, and automotive departments. A dedicated support team further strengthens this effort.

Martin Wunsch, the ministry's director-general, praised the school's achievements. He highlighted its role as a leader in inclusive and forward-thinking education. With Modus status, JBS gains five years of autonomy. This freedom allows the school to innovate in teaching methods, staff training, and external partnerships, such as those with LinkedIn Learning or Minecraft Education. The goal is to ensure all students benefit from a modern, adaptable learning environment.

JBS now serves as a benchmark for vocational education in Bavaria. Its inclusive model and newfound autonomy will shape its approach for years to come. The school's work reflects a broader push to make learning more accessible and effective for every student.
