Meerbusch’s 2026 Environmental Calendar Introduces Stricter Waste Rules and Local Art

The 2026 Environmental Calendar for Meerbusch has been released, offering key dates for waste disposal, recycling, and green waste collection. Alongside practical schedules, it includes artwork by local students and is supported by Volksbank Mönchengladbach and Meerbusch Municipal Utilities.

The calendar highlights important changes to waste management starting January 1, 2026. Households without a yellow bin will now receive only two rolls of yellow bags (26 in total) per year. To collect these, residents must visit citizen service offices with an authorisation card.

Requests for additional yellow sacks must be made in writing. This mirrors systems in other regions, such as Vorpommern-Rügen, where early applications by December 6, 2023, ensured timely delivery. Some municipalities have even phased out yellow sacks entirely, replacing them with bins or transparent auxiliary sacks.

Beyond waste schedules, the calendar features special sections on redesigning natural schoolyards and safely handling wasps and hornets. It also promotes local cycling events, including the Meerbusch Night Ride on Friday, June 12. The new measures aim to cut plastic waste and bring Meerbusch in line with neighbouring areas.

The updated system will change how residents manage packaging waste from 2026. Yellow bags will be limited, and requests must follow stricter procedures. The calendar itself remains a useful guide, blending practical information with community-focused content.
