Meditation vital for inner peace, social harmony, says Vice President Radhakrishnan

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan joined the World Meditation Day celebrations at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Telangana. He spoke about the practice’s deep roots in Indian tradition and its growing global significance. The event marked the first official observance since the UN declared 21 December as World Meditation Day.

India played a key role in establishing the annual observance. The country co-sponsored the United Nations General Assembly resolution that set 21 December as World Meditation Day. During the event, the Vice President described meditation as a timeless tool for inner peace, emotional balance, and social unity.

He emphasised its power to bring mental clarity and ethical living. According to him, mastering the mind through meditation leads to self-realisation and harmony. The practice, he noted, has been nurtured by Indian sages for centuries as a science of mind and spirit. At the celebration, spiritual leader Daaji guided a global meditation session. Participants worldwide joined in unison, focusing on collective peace. The Vice President acknowledged Daaji’s efforts in spreading meditation globally and encouraged people to adopt the practice daily. He urged families and communities to set an example for younger generations. By embracing meditation, he said, they could foster balance, resilience, and well-being in society.

The Vice President’s call to action highlighted meditation’s role in modern life. The UN-backed observance now gives the practice an annual global platform. Organisers and participants aim to make mindfulness a habit for millions.
