Media Literacy Day 2025 Explores Digital Media’s Dual Role in Education
The ninth Media Literacy Day conference, themed 'Digital Media Use: Between Participation and Dependency', is set to take place on November 13, 2025, at Hanover’s Career Campus. Around 450 experts, educators, and practitioners in media education will gather to discuss the impact of digital media on education and the working world. The main event will be opened by Dr. Andreas Philippi, Lower Saxony’s Minister for Social Affairs, and will feature keynote presentations by Dr. Frank Fischer and Professor Dr. Uta Hauck-Thum.
Dr. Frank Fischer will kickstart the event with a presentation on 'Digitalization: Opportunities and Risks in Schools', exploring the dual nature of technology in education. Following this, Professor Dr. Uta Hauck-Thum, a renowned expert from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), will delve into 'School Transformation Processes in Culture and Digitalization'. She brings a wealth of knowledge in education, pedagogy, digital transformation, and media education to the stage.
The conference will also touch upon the health risks of media use, a topic of particular relevance this year. It will culminate in the awarding of the 'Internet ABC School Lower Saxony 2025' certification, recognizing schools that have excelled in promoting digital media literacy. Lower Saxony’s Minister-President Olaf Lies has posed key questions about digital media literacy in a video message, which will be a point of reflection throughout the event.
The ninth Media Literacy Day conference promises to be an insightful and engaging exploration of digital media's role in our lives. With expert speakers, a thought-provoking theme, and a focus on practical outcomes, it aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools to navigate the complex landscape of digital media use.
