Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania secures €600M deal to modernize schools
A new agreement has been signed to improve school buildings across Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. State Premier Manuela Schwesig (SPD) joined local leaders in Güstrow to finalise the deal. The plan includes a major funding boost for renovations and municipal projects.
The administrative agreement was signed by Schwesig, the County Association, and the Association of Towns and Municipalities. It sets out how funds from a recent investment summit will be distributed. A key part of the deal is the renovation of all school buildings in the state.
Around €600 million from the investment package will go toward upgrading schools. On top of this, every municipality in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will receive a one-time payment of €50,000. A total of 76 local councils will benefit from this extra funding.
The money comes with flexibility—municipalities can decide for themselves how to spend it. The agreement aims to speed up improvements while giving local authorities control over their priorities.
The deal marks a major step in modernising the region's schools. With €600 million earmarked for renovations and €50,000 for each municipality, upgrades are set to begin soon. The funding will help address long-standing needs in education infrastructure.
