Marl’s mayor reads to children for National Reading Aloud Day

Marl’s mayor, Thomas Terhorst, visited Sickingmühle Primary School to read aloud to pupils as part of National Reading Aloud Day. The annual event, now in its 19th year, took place on the third Friday of November. This year’s theme, 'Reading Aloud Speaks Your Language', aimed to show how stories connect people across cultures and backgrounds.

Terhorst chose 'How to Train Your Dad: Parenting Made Easy', a children’s novel by Cornelia Funke, for his reading session. After finishing the story, he donated a copy of the book to the fourth-grade class. He also stressed how vital reading is for learning and giving all children the same chances in life.

The event brought attention to the gap in reading habits among children. By donating the book and engaging with pupils, Terhorst contributed to efforts that help schools and daycare centres promote literacy. National Reading Aloud Day continues to grow, with more participants joining each year to share stories with young listeners.
