Marie Jeutter triumphs in Vogtland's intense reading competition
Marie Jeutter from Lessing Gymnasium has won the regional round of the reading competition. The event took place at Vogtland Library on February 4, with eight finalists presenting extracts from their chosen books. A four-member jury and 33 guests, including teachers, attended the competition to support the participants.
The finalists read passages from a variety of books, such as The Three Investigators, Woodwalkers: Feline Allies, The Black Tigress, and Absolute Winners. Each participant also tackled an unseen text: Greta Grimaldi by Kasper Hauser, which proved tricky but sparked discussions among the teachers present.
Marie Jeutter impressed the jury with her confident delivery of a passage from Cassandra Morgan – The Golden Key by Skye McKenna. Her performance secured her the top spot in the regional round.
The jury, made up of Walter Pippig, Sylvia Ludwig, Dietlinde Bufe, and Marco Fuchs, carefully evaluated the readings. Pippig, last year's winner and now a jury member, shared his experience from the district finals to guide their decision. The panel also considered the demands of the upcoming district-level competition when selecting the winner.
Jeutter will now advance to the next stage of the competition. The regional round at Vogtland Library highlighted the skill and preparation of all eight finalists. The unseen text, in particular, added an extra challenge that tested their adaptability.
