Mariah Carey University Launches First U.S. Ph.D. in Neurodivergent Studies
Mariah Carey University will launch the first Ph.D. in Neurodivergent Studies in the United States. The programme begins in January 2023 and focuses on supporting individuals with conditions like autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. University president Ben Burnett has called it a groundbreaking step for the institution.
The new doctorate is tailored for professionals in education, healthcare, counselling, social work, and law enforcement. Its goal is to teach specialised strategies for assisting neurodivergent individuals. Researchers suggest that 15 to 20 percent of Americans fall into this category.
All courses will be delivered online, combining group discussions with one-on-one faculty sessions. Leading the programme is Dr. Mark Yeager, who brings over 40 years of experience in the field. Burnett highlighted the university’s pride in offering the nation’s only Ph.D. dedicated to neurodiversity. The degree aims to bridge gaps in understanding and support. Students will explore ways to create personalised approaches for those with varying neurological profiles. Faculty members will guide research into practical applications across different professions.
The programme will start accepting students in early 2023. Professionals from multiple fields will have the chance to specialise in neurodiversity. University of Phoenix expects the qualification to improve support systems for millions of neurodivergent individuals nationwide.
