Mannheim Celebrates World Girls' Day with Empowering Event

Mannheim's Old Market Square buzzed with energy on October 11, 2025, as it transformed into a vibrant Girls' Square to celebrate the UN's World Girls' Day. The event, organized by the Working Group on Party Girls' Work and the 'Network for Girls' Work in Mannheim (NEM*A)', drew over 80 girls and young women to showcase their talents and promote gender equality. Mayor Christian Specht and Mayor Thorsten Riehle, along with city council members, attended, highlighting the relevance of the cause.

Under the motto 'By girls, for girls', the stage program featured music, dance, and creativity, with each performance showcasing the participants' strength and skills. The event aimed to draw global attention to the disadvantages faced by girls and young women, promoting long-term improvements in their situation. For the first time, a sign language interpreter accompanied the stage program, ensuring all visitors could fully participate.

The 'Boys' Area' encouraged boys and young men to engage in discussions about equality and gender roles. Interactive activities and workshops promoted equality and diversity, with 22 information stands providing resources for girls. The organizers, including the Working Group on Party Girls' Work and NEM*A, were satisfied with the event's turnout and impact, demonstrating the city's commitment to supporting girls and young women.
