Mainz's OPEN OHR Festival Explores Loneliness Through Art and Connection

The 52nd OPEN OHR Festival will run in Mainz from May 22 to 25, 2026. This year’s event, themed Alone Together, puts loneliness under the spotlight. Organisers hope to create a space where visitors can explore and discuss the issue in different ways—through art, conversation, and shared activities. The festival opens with a high-energy performance by Neuwied’s electropunk band Nein Danke. Later, rising social media star Kayla Shyx will take the stage, drawing crowds from her TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram following.

Film screenings include the 1930 silent classic *People on Sunday*, brought to life with a live score by the Gramm Art Project. Theatre lovers can catch *Under the Trees* by Antagon TheaterAktion and *Loneliness* by Junges Theater Bremen, both tackling the festival’s central theme. Beyond performances, attendees can join communal activities like group singing, quizzes, and board games. Panel discussions and workshops will also offer chances to dig deeper into loneliness—its social, political, and health impacts. All events take place at the historic Mainz Citadel.

The festival blends music, film, theatre, and interactive sessions to address loneliness in modern life. Visitors will leave with new connections, fresh perspectives, and a shared experience of the topic. Tickets and a full programme are available on the festival’s website.
