Park University's Center for Global Peace Journalism arranges events in Kansas City, honoring the 150th birth anniversary of renowned figure Rajmohan Gandhi, a historian, journalist, and peacebuilder, who happens to be the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi's Grandson to be Honored at Park University for Commemoration of His 150th Birth Anniversary

In August 2019, the Center for Global Peace Journalism at Park University is hosting a series of events in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth. Among the distinguished speakers is Rajmohan Gandhi, a historian, journalist, and peacebuilder, and the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

On August 26, 2019, Rajmohan Gandhi will participate in a discussion titled "Gandhi: The First Peace Journalist" at 7 p.m. in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Parkville Campus. This event is co-sponsored by the International Relations Council. The discussion will examine Mahatma Gandhi as a journalist and his promotion of journalism as a tool for societal development and peace. The event will include Rajmohan Gandhi, Abhijit Mazumdar, Cynthia Lukas, and will be moderated by Steven Youngblood, the director of the Center for Global Peace Journalism and an associate professor of communications at Park University.

A reception will precede the presentation on August 26, starting at 6:30 p.m.

On August 27, 2019, Rajmohan Gandhi will present a symposium on "The Status of Peacebuilding Between India and Pakistan" at 7 p.m. in Hudson Auditorium on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan.

Rajmohan Gandhi has been engaged in efforts for reconciliation and democratic rights for 60 years. He has published several notable books primarily focused on Indian history, politics, and prominent figures, with biographies and historical analyses being his main genres. His notable works include "Rajaji: A Life", "Ghaffar Khan: Nonviolent Badshah of the Pakhtuns", "Revenge & Reconciliation: Understanding South Asian History", "Patel: A Life", "Eight Lives: A Study of the Hindu-Muslim Encounter", "The Good Boatman: A Portrait of Gandhi", "Punjab", and "Understanding the Muslim Mind".

In the 1960s and early 1970s, Rajmohan Gandhi played a leading role in establishing Asia Plateau, a center of Initiatives of Change in the mountains of western India. Asia Plateau fosters dialogue, reconciliation, and ethical governance and is recognized on the Indian subcontinent for its ecological contribution.
