Lower Saxony Fire Department Empowers Women with Pregnancy Guidance and National Forum

The Lower Saxony Fire Department Association is making strides in supporting and empowering its female firefighters. A guideline for leaders regarding pregnancy in the fire department is in development, while a nationwide forum for women firefighters is planned for later this year.

The initiative comes from Sabine Schröder, the state women's representative, and the district women's representatives. They aim to provide guidance and support to female leaders in the fire department during pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Peter Dettmer, district fire chief of Rotenburg (Wümme), highlighted the increasing number of women in leadership roles within the district's fire departments. This trend is encouraging, as it reflects the growing diversity and inclusivity of the fire service.

In other news, the Lower Saxony Fire Department Association will host 'Firefighters in Motion', a fitness event from August 1 to 3, 2025. This event aims to promote physical fitness and camaraderie among firefighters.

Sabine Schröder also shared updates on the new fire regulation, including a new uniform designed to be comfortable and functional for both male and female firefighters.

Tanja de Freese, deputy state women's representative, is planning a significant event: a nationwide forum for women firefighters from October 10 to 12, 2025, in East Frisia. This forum will provide a platform for women firefighters to discuss issues, share experiences, and support each other.

Recently, the district women's representatives gathered at the Zeven fire station in Rotenburg (Wümme) district to mark International Women's Day. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss and address the specific needs and challenges faced by women in the fire service.

These initiatives demonstrate the commitment of the Lower Saxony Fire Department Association to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for its female firefighters. By addressing specific needs and providing platforms for dialogue, the association is helping to ensure that all firefighters can serve effectively and safely.
