LJMU's New AI Academy Trains Staff to Work Smarter with Technology

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has launched an AI Academy, in partnership with Multiverse, to train 134 staff in AI skills. The initiative aims to help employees work more efficiently by using AI tools in their daily tasks. Staff from various departments, including academics and professional services, will take part in the programme.

The AI Academy offers three training programmes. Learners will start with Multiverse's Level 3 AI-Powered Productivity course, designed to teach practical AI applications for streamlining administrative work. Two further programmes—the AI for Business Value and the AI and Machine Learning Fellowship—will focus on responsible AI use and turning data into actionable insights.

For senior teams, a Level 5 AI Strategy and Leadership programme will provide guidance on implementing AI across the university. The goal is to create a consistent approach to AI adoption while reducing manual workloads. LJMU estimates that staff could save an average of 4.5 hours per week through automated reporting and workflow improvements.

Gary Eimerman, chief learning officer at Multiverse, welcomed the partnership, highlighting its potential to boost productivity. Meanwhile, LJMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Power emphasised that the academy would free up staff time, allowing them to focus more on supporting students and achieving the university's wider objectives.

The AI Academy is set to enhance efficiency at LJMU by cutting down on repetitive tasks and improving data management. Staff will gain skills to apply AI responsibly while strengthening the university's financial resilience. The programme reflects a broader push to integrate technology into higher education operations.
